Se propondrá al alumno un edificio en plantas / alzados / secciones;
Sobre ello se plantearán unas cinco preguntas de diseño, dimensionado y cálculo 

Duración aprox. 2,5  horas 

NO OLVIDAR:
- Documentación identificativa (DNI o Carnet ETSAM, etc.) 
- Documentación Técnica propia: Apuntes Publicados de 4º,
Manuales de Cálculo Recomendados, Código Técnico, etc. 
- Material de cálculo y dibujo (calculadora, escalímetro, colores, etc.)

TRIBUTE

in the meantime I offer you a poem.


FROM A TEACHER TO STUDENTS: A TRIBUTE

Friends, some of you here are my pupils
and there are others that have been,
or will be in the future, with "bad luck";
allow me a few comments that I feel:

Albert Einstein had said that is "the school
the invention of old age to take revenge"...
from the accusation of continuous youth
which shows as in a mirror the contrast 
of life that is in bloom and ever young
and the relentless slaughter of the time.

As he who is the professor always finds
all courses, perpetual and renewed,
in front of him, standing by, the estate
always the same and vigorous of life
in twenty years of age the clock stopped,
with time unchanging mocking at his face
as in a bloodily reversed devil´s pact.

And is the painful contrast evident
of all the years passed in a breath,
that open sores of former joys forgotten,
the longing for what could have been,
the ride near the end and all its sins,
the final course which leads towards the death.

And in revenge of the hour-glass, professors
looking to spend their aging each year in front
of youth batches evergreen as an insult,
as a mocking laughter of the gods,
in retaliation I suppose, perhaps unconsciously,
they erect themselves as if a Cronus god
to devour flesh of generations new.

Overwhelming demands then are there raised
of work without limits or an end
which represent, I know, the many hours
stolen from the rest, and from sports,
going out with friends or else with the sweet love,
to travel round the world or just to lie
on the park in spring facing the sky

to see clouds drift by across the blue
quietly and ponder questions: what is life?,
what´s the destiny of all, and its arcana ...;
and try to find our own answers that no book
neither teachers or syllabus, can give;
that only each one alone and by himself
in direct insight might see if in silence
the mind is quieted, from common toils afar…

without "sword of Damocles" of handovers,
without the guilty conscience of the expenses
without the urgency for the next exercise,
of attendances, examinations, marks.

Society does not treat those youths as adults,
people who are already so by age,
as caged birds would be the fitting image,
or tamed creatures to jump the fences brought
of the Career, a steeplechase resembling so to say.

Yes, I know, there are other rewards
-of architecture I speak because I know-
the cause is neat and gives us information
in a wide variety of fields
and plus discovers the deep creative vein
that makes us equal to God "Great Architect".

And yet we see that in the scales unbalanced,
the other plate is there much overloaded
with the youth lost and with the extensive hours
and then more hours of never ending work.

And apart, of course of some outstanding master
luckily found at last -as one finds a rare bird-
and half a dozen teachers that are good
with something to offer that interesting sounds,
misunderstanding of much professor fool,
endure so much the egos and their whims,
treatment unfair of some frustrated despots,
or leaden weight of lecturers much gray.

It is also added the uncertainty in the present
of future work and money to be gained
that allows us to be at last independent,
being no more a burden to the family,
able to travel and go around the world,
to buy a sports car, and even a small house,
and found a home and have some children there,
(or perhaps that sounds already outmoded?).

A true vocation more than that of Saints
to stand in the gap is here necessary,
to overcome discouragement and "lows"
and not to throw the towel on the floor
given the example that we see on the street
of so many ignorant dumb scoundrels
that without knowledge and also without qualms
flourishes in business or thrives in politics.

So friends I understand you, I've had
more or less the same as any one around;
if anything serves, tell me of course with you,
because beyond the teacher and the student,
exams and marks, beyond assigned roles,
the human aspect must at the end prevail
I've passed that too, so I speak.

Above all: a generation can´t be lost
denying best fresh blood to the old crop rows
who have already given, and now dry,
deprived of sowing without the future seeds,
are just to be stubble and henceforth
outworn responses only from the past.

What a sin!; a treadmill around the neck, then thrown
into the sea, responsible deserve
for ruining roads for treading of the youth
by shortsightedness and selfishness so dumb,
the treasure of the future making waste!.

I regard it utterly intolerable, therefor 
tell me among the outraged in their ranks!.

… y por si acaso la versión española:

DE UN PROFESOR A ALUMNOS: HOMENAJE

Amigos:
algunos sois alumnos,
otros aquí presentes lo habéis sido,
o lo seréis con cierta "mala pata"; 
permitidme algunos comentarios:

Ya decía Albert Einstein que "la escuela 
es invento de viejos en venganza" …
de constante juventud acusadora
que nos muestra como en un espejo
el contraste de la vida en lozanía   
y el estrago inclemente de las horas.

Pues quien es profesor encuentra siempre
todos los cursos, perpetuo y renovado, 
frente a sí ese estado inmarcesible 
siempre igual y pujante de la vida
detenido el reloj en veinte años 
inmutables, haciendo burla al tiempo
como en pacto -a la inversa- con el diablo.

Y es punzante el recuerdo doloroso
de los años pasados en un soplo,    
que abren llaga de antiguas alegrías,
la nostalgia de lo que pudo haber sido,
trayecto casi al fin, y sus errores, 
y el decurso que lleva hacia la muerte. 

Y en venganza -supongo- profesores
que envejecen viendo agotar su arena 
todos los años de frente a las hornadas
de juventud perenne como insulto,
como risa burlona de los dioses,  
en venganza -ya digo- aún inconsciente,
como Cronos se erigen ellos mismos
a devorar nuevas generaciones.

Se eleva la exigencia abrumadora 
de trabajos sin límite ni tasa
que suponen -lo sé- las muchas horas
robadas al descanso, a los deportes, 
a salir con amig@s o con chic@s, 
a viajar por el mundo, o simplemente 
a tumbarse en el parque en primavera

a ver pasar las nubes por el cielo 
y meditar tranquilos ¿qué es la vida?, 
y el destino de todo, sus arcanos … ;
de buscar nuestras respuestas propias
que ningún plan de estudios, ningún libro 
nos podrá dar; que cada uno tan sólo 
en intuición directa podría verlo 
acallando la mente en el silencio …

… sin "espada de Damocles" de la entrega,
sin la mala conciencia de los gastos, 
sin la urgencia del próximo ejercicio, 
de la asistencia a clase, o del examen.

La sociedad no trata como adultos,
a gentes que lo son por biología;
como aves enjauladas sería la imagen,    
o como amaestradas criaturas 
para saltar las vallas interpuestas 
de la Carrera, carrera que es de obstáculos. 

Si, ya sé, hay otras compensaciones 
pues la causa es bonita y proporciona 
-hablo de arquitectura que conozco- 
información en muy variados campos 
y descubre la vena creativa 
que nos iguala a Dios ("Gran Arquitecto"). 

Pero aún así vemos que en la balanza,
el otro plato está sobrecargado
con juventud perdida y con las horas 
y más horas y horas de trabajo.

Y aparte -claro está- de algún maestro
que por suerte encontramos ("rara avis"),
y de media docena de docentes
con algo que aportar interesante, 
la incomprensión del profesor imbécil, 
el soportar tanto ego y sus manías,
el trato injusto de déspotas frustrados,
o el plúmbeo peso de grises enseñantes.

Se añade aquí también la incertidumbre 
del trabajo futuro y del dinero 
que permita ya ser independiente,
no ser más una carga a la familia, 
poder viajar y dar la vuelta al mundo, 
comprarse un deportivo o una casa, 
y fundar un hogar y tener hijos, … 
(¿o acaso ya es que esto no se lleva?). 

Verdadera vocación, más que de santo 
para estar en la brecha es necesaria, 
superar el desánimo y "bajones", 
no arrojar la toalla por los suelos 
dado el ejemplo que vemos en la calle 
de tantísimo ignorante y sinvergüenza 
que sin conocimiento y sin escrúpulos 
en los negocios medra y/o en política. 

Amig@s os comprendo, lo he pasado, 
si de algo sirve sabedme con vosotros,  
pues más allá de profesor y alumno, 
de exámenes, de entregas y de notas
y más allá de roles asignados,
debe siempre primar el fondo humano, 
lo he pasado también, por eso os hablo. 

Chic@s inteligentes y sensat@s
que cribas exigentes me han filtrado, 
tengo la inmensa suerte de teneros, 
me considero en ello afortunado, 
sois la crema de lo mejor en jóvenes, 
el fruto que evolución ha decantado 
de esa luz que la Conciencia arroja 
sobre este mundo para iluminarlo*. 

No puede haber generación perdida 
que niegue mejor sangre renovada
a viejos surcos que ya dieron cosecha, 
que en adelante serán solo rastrojos
privados de ella, sin germen de futuro,
solo respuestas manidas del pasado.

¡Qué castigo con rueda de molino 
atada al cuello y luego al mar lanzado 
merecen responsables del pecado
de arruinar el camino de los jóvenes 
por cortedad de miras y egoísmos,
del porvenir haciendo despilfarro!.

Lo considero como algo intolerable;
¡contadme entre las filas de indignados!.

FOR NEXT THURSDAY 2013 12 12 : SYNOPTIC PANEL, PLEA & POLL

SYNOPTIC PANEL.

- Resuming the personal work done in this course. The best are eventually to be exhibited in public.
- The criteria -besides technical quality- is that it should be attractive enough to catch the eye if chosen to be exhibited. 
Free style composition, arranged to fit in one sheet of paper A1 in portrait format (if you want it can be done in two A2 (landscape): one for Salubrity, and another for VHAC). Please use the color codes.
- Will be collected at the beginning of class time 
- Send it also as a pdf, weighting no more than aprox.10 MB in a separate mail "Exp….Name….3.1 Panel"
- After collecting  your work we will dedicate some time to comment some of the panels.

PLEA & POLL

- Optionally we will continue with a little Plea & Poll and some time dedicated to solve personal & cosmic Doubts.

FOR NEXT THURSDAY 2013 12 05: HSW Handover, Exercise, Questions & Answers.

HANDOVER: 2.3 HOT SANITARY WATER & CSW & DRAINAGE
- Before class time, in one pdf, and in landscape orientation please.

INCLUDING (minimum content):
- A report explaining & justifying your solution (in just one A-4 format each).
Preliminary sketches of the whole solution.
- A sample of the calculations (in just one A-4 format each).
Constructive Plans & Details and a view of a significative part of your proposal (like for example a bathroom), with sufficient detail for you to show the possibility to build it.
- Must include the coordination of facilities: Drainage (in green& brown), Cold Water (in blue) and Hot Water (in orange& yellow), and also with the rest of spaces upon the building´s plans (grayed).
- It counts positively the proposal of measures in order to save energy and water resources.
- You can always change & improve your previous work, modifying parts of your building if necessary.

Some of your HSW proposals will be reviewed at the beginning of the class

EXERCISE: Design & VHAC & Salubrity Systems

- At 12:30 we will begin with the (compulsory) exercise for the whole course, that is going to last for about one and a half hour.
-Doing it in English is optional.
-It would be about concepts & drawings derived from classes.
-No documentation is allowed to use.
-Bring drawing material with you (color pens, etc.).
-Bring three blank A3 copies of the canvas of your proposal.


- After the exercise we will continue with a (voluntary) time dedicated to solve personal & cosmic doubts.

HANDOVER: 2.2 Cold.Sanit.Water

INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM CONTENT:
- A report explaining & justifying your solution (in just one A-4 format).
- Preliminary sketches (sufficient for being able to calculate it).
- A sample of the calculations done for a representative part (in just one A-4 format).
- Plans that must include the Cold Water (in blue) facilities reflecting dimensions & diameters, and coordinated with Drainage (in green & brown) and the rest of spaces upon the building´s plans (grayed).
- You can always change & improve your work, modifying parts of your building if necessary.
- Send it before class time, in one pdf, and in landscape orientation please.

CLASS:
We will proceed with the next topic 3.3  Hot Sanit.Water Facility. Please bring your A3 Canvas and the CTE & Notes from last course.

HANDOVER: 3.1 Drainage

INCLUDING:
- A brief report explaining & justifying your drainage solution: type & layout & materials employed (in just one A-4 format).
Plans that must include the coordinated Drainage Facility (in green& brown color) with the sewage system (just one connection for the building) and the rest of spaces & structure & foundations depicted in the building´s plans (grayed).
The dimensioning of pipe diameters and other important elements should be reflected on the plans.
Send before class time, in just one pdf please.



CLASS-TIME

- We will begin with the Cold Sanitary Water solution
- Please bring a paper copy of the A3 canvas of your building proposal to work in class.

FOR NEXT THURSDAY 2013 11 14: VHAC HANDOVER & REWIEW & DRAINAGE

HANDOVER FOR THE COMPLETE VHAC FACILITIES

Before class-time.
It should include (at least) the following for each of the parts:
Ventilation (for garages & dwellings)
Hydronic Heating (for dwellings ) and
Air Conditioning (mixed water-air for little rooms & whole air for big ones).

- A report explaining & justifying your solution (in just one A-4 format).
Preliminary sketches for the different zone solutions.
- A sample of the calculations (in just one A-4 format).
- Constructive Plans & Details and a view of a significative part of your proposal (like for example an Air-Handler location & duct conections on the deck), with sufficient detail to show the possibility of building it.
- Must include the coordination of facilities with the rest of spaces upon the building´s plans (grayed).
- It counts positively the proposal of measures in order to save energy and natural resources.
- You can always change & improve your previous work, modifying parts of your building if necessary.


CLASS TIME (1/2): REWIEW OF THE VHAC WORKS

- We will cast & examine some of the works submitted.


CLASS TIME (1/2): DRAINAGE

- Constructive Plans & Details and a view of a significative part of your proposal (like for example an Air-Handler location & duct conections on the deck), with sufficient detail to show the possibility of building it.

HANDOVER: 2.1 VENTILATION

MUST INCLUDE:
- A report explaining & justifying your solution (in just one A-4 format).
Preliminary sketches of the whole solution.
Constructive Plans & Details for the garages & storage rooms, with sufficient detail as to show the possibility to build it.
- Must include the coordination with the rest of spaces & structure (beams & pillars) upon the building´s plans (grayed).
- A sample of the calculations one for garages, and another for dwellings (each in just one A-4 format).

- Please conform in your drawings to the color code.
- You can always change & improve your work, modifying parts of your building if necessary.
- Before class time, all in one pdf (should weight no more than 10 Mb), and in landscape (screen) orientation please.
